Personality; Barnaby Brooks Jr. is the yang to Kotetsu's yin; while his partner, Wild Tiger, relies on instinct (and pays for it in court-ordered damages), Barnaby relies on logic. Sure, it bites him in the ass from time to time, but for the most part, it serves him well. At the beginning, he and Kotetsu would bicker constantly, Kotetsu calling him "Bunny-chan" (complete with childish gestures), Barnaby calling him "ojii-san"- old man. Their methods when it comes to their work have always been polar opposites- when Kotetsu just wants to rush in, Barnaby is the one who always grabs him and makes him think first. On the other hand, Barnaby is a lot more self-serving than Kotetsu, and a bit more selfish too. He loves being in the spotlight, all the attention his fans give him, and takes advantage of every perk of his job, but he's not a very sympathetic person, nor does he really show the concern for others that his partner has.

Yes, Barnaby's a bit vain, and on the verge of pure arrogance too. He's proud, independent, and just a few shades off from a classic jerkass celebrity type: polite to fans, but most of the time, kind of unapproachable, and a downright smartass (at least, when we first meet him), and hell, this job was practically handed to him. A spoiled city kid from the cradle, he's always been accustomed to having the best. He's kind of a loner, too; he and doesn't easily let people in, unless you're obnoxious like Kotetsu and kind of get under his skin. And when competing on HeroTV, he's in it for the points- he even tells aspiring Heroes that it's the most important part of the job. But that's not the reason why Barnaby even took the job in the first place.

Barnaby's parents were murdered when he was only 4 years old, after coming home from a day of Christmas festivities with a family friend. And since then, he's tried, all on his own, to track down their killer- with nothing but the memory of a man surrounded in fire, with a tattoo of an ouroboros on his hand. (And before you ask- no, a homunculus did not kill Barnaby and Emily Brooks.) For 20 years, he's been haunted by nightmares of the horror of coming home on Christmas Eve to find his loving, hardworking parents dead, his warm home on fire, and a man standing among it all whose face he can't even remember.

And when he does remember, it's all too late, and it's the last person he'd want to kill: Mr. Maverick, the man who helped raise him after his parents were killed, and head of the company that owns Barnaby and Kotetsu. Even worse, Maverick had altered Barnaby's memories, throwing him even further off the trail than before, and there's no telling how many times he's done it since then. There's no way Barnaby's mind is still intact after that much brainwashing; his memory is actually quite messed up. There will be little things that Barnaby forgets or gets wrong; maybe he'll think you said something you didn't, or forget a birthday here and there, and unless he really gets to know you, he will probably get your name wrong more than once.

In the two and a half years since their first meeting, Bunny has changed... if only a little. He's still vain as a peacock, fussy about anything he chooses, picky about clothes, hair, personal space (that one, the old man really seems to have the worst time at grasping), he's become a bit more approachable, a bit kinder even, and Kotetsu is largely the one to thank for that. The other Heroes are no exception; he has finally come to see them as friends, and shows a good deal of care towards them. However, Barnaby still has some instability tied to coping with loss; when they have their final showdown with Maverick, Barnaby almost killed his partner, and the panicked feeling he felt during what could've been his last few moments with his best friend definitely stuck with him for some time, and it certainly taught him a few things. Kotetsu is one of the (if not singularly) most important people to him, and as such, cares for him deeply. As his partner and friend, a lot of Barnaby's wellbeing depends on Kotetsu's own happiness, and by now, he may just have come to accept that. (If they could just agree on pizza toppings, that is.)

Oh- and unless your name is Kotetsu T. Kaburagi, don't call him Bunny. Ever.

Samples;
Network Sample; I want my robot back, Kotetsu-san. This isn't funny. [ The audio is joined by a very impatient-looking Bunny. Behind him, we can see his room has been turned upside-down in search of one of his most prized possessions, navy blue duvet tossed from his bed. This is a rare sight- Barnaby is so unhappy with his partner that he didn't even pause to straighten up the room before turning on the bracelet. ]

You know how important that toy is! It's the only thing from Sternbild I have here, and it was the last birthday present I got from my parents! [ Which is wrong, actually, according to what Barnaby's told Kotetsu before- the last time the topic came up, it was a present they gave him the Christmas before they were killed. ]

I'm giving you two minutes to bring it back, or I'm coming for it myself. [ And that is something we all know Kotetsu doesn't want. God save Kotetsu T. Kaburagi's eternal soul if he doesn't do as he says. ]

If you ever touch it again... actually, no. You're never touching it again. Ja. [ He makes a very exasperated noise as the video feed clicks off. ]
